“India Stands Tall: PM Modi Responds to Trump’s 50% Tariff with Bold Promise to Farmers — ‘We’re Ready to Pay the Price’”
NEW DELHI: In a powerful and patriotic message from the heart of India’s capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a strong, indirect rebuttal to US President Donald Trump’s latest tariff assault. Addressing the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, PM Modi reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to India’s agricultural backbone — its farmers, fishermen, and dairy workers.
“India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers,” Modi declared, as Trump slapped an additional 25% tariff on top of last week’s 25%, totaling a steep 50% duty on Indian goods — primarily in retaliation for India’s continued oil trade with Russia.
Without directly naming the United States, Modi’s tone was firm and nationalistic. “I know we will have to pay a heavy price… and I am ready for it. India is ready for it,” he said, signaling both resolve and readiness for economic retaliation if necessary.
As tensions rise, India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the move as “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable,” reinforcing that the country will do whatever it takes to protect the energy security and economic interests of its 1.4 billion citizens.
